Followers of the fight game have an action-packed weekend ahead with major titles decided on big shows in Europe and America, all under the bright lights of live TV.
That’s great news for punters, but as well as enjoying the action they have the serious business of making their viewing count, and that’s where we come in. Follow our expert boxing betting tips below.
George Groves vs Eduard Gutknecht – Friday – Live on Ch5
George Groves is out at Wembley on Friday night in a match-up that will provide no real test if the odds are to be believed. The Englishman has been offered around the 1/25 mark with most firms, pricing punters out of an interest.
We’ve dug around in the markets however in an attempt to try and find some much-needed value and it comes in the form of Groves to win by KO/TKO at 6/4 with Coral. We will need a bit of luck to get that home and hosed but Groves stopped two of his last three opponents while Gutknecht was cut down in one of his earlier outings.
Marco Huck vs Dmytro Kucher – Saturday – BoxNation
32-year-old Marco Huck continues down the road to recovery after being stopped in the 11th round by Krzysztog Glowacki back in the summer of 2015. The German-based Serbian returned to form when halting Ola Afolabi in 10 rounds on his comeback fight and looks to have been handed a very winnable contest again here, with the local at 3/10 (Coral).
I wouldn’t put anyone off getting stuck into that price heavy, or including it in weekend all-sport accas, but if you are after a bit more, I’d suggest taking the fight to go beyond 9.5 rounds at 8/11 with Skybet. Only one of Huck’s last eight have finished before that mark and he’s not in the habit of getting bodies out of there early.
Andre Ward vs Sergey Kovalev – Sunday – Sky Sports
This is a clash for the purists and one that has the odds compilers perching firmly on the fence. It’s split opinion in the boxing public - will Ward’s slick skills prevail, or can Kovalev force the issue and enhance his knockout ratio against an opponent hampered by injury and inactivity?
My answer is a squeaky-clean Ward win on points. Both men have power, and have shown it many times in the past, but both will respect the danger their opponent brings, ensuring a slow start to this one. The fight to go the distance at 8/13 (Coral) looks a safe play, while Ward on points is 11/10 with the same firm.
