Can the Steve Mahon trained Stormey get back to winning ways as he returns to the Mayo venue for a Handicap hurdle ran over the extended two miles.
A horse I have followed closely since winning his maiden hurdle at Sligo, and has been unfortunate in my opinion in has last three runs recently.
Last time out at Listowel he travelled strongly until finding nothing two flights from home but the trainer reported that the ground was too much for him that day and no surprise as the going was declared as heavy. Previously before that run, he ran in Bellewstown and again didn't have much luck in running as he was shuffled down the field coming around the bend but still managed to stay on close home to finish a decent fifth.
Stormey is a hold-up horse and likes to be produced late and with Paul Townsend on board I am confident he can get the best out of his mount to land a serious challenge late in the race.
I think Listowel was more so dead ground which didn't help his cause and with better underfoot conditions today and feel he represents great each-way value at 12/1. I personally would have priced Stormey at around 7 or 8/1 and feel he was been somewhat overlooked.
